I can't remember when a book of poetry gave me as much pleasure as Riverbend does. The poems work superbly on their own--from the small, gem-like descriptions of landscape to the remarkably compressed character sketches--but taken together they describe a life, one man's travels, not only in space and time, but also in emotion, intellect, and spirit. These are quiet poems, but, of course, the most intimate truths are often told in the softest voice, and the most beautiful music is often play pianissimo.
