April, come she will by Jim Heynen
The poems of this chapbook were selected from writing completed while the author was looking out the window during the COVID lockdown. Presented as a day-book of the month with an introductory and a concluding poem added to the 30 days, the collection depicts the between-the-seasons weather of the time and details of events in the neighborhood. A careless reader might think that weather and clouds are main subjects of the poems, but such a reading misses the main effect of the poems which move back and forth between natural imagery and human emotion, as in the following:
“BOISTERIOUS CLOUDS”
Today the clouds
Are raising a ruckus.
Hard to tell
If it’s a bar fight
Or a birthday party.
This light-hearted example should open the reader to the significant emotion moving through the casual style of the observant poet.
A saddle-stitched chapbook of 35 pages, 5 1/2” x 6 1/2”. $10 per copy shipping included.
